Hi, My name is Kellie Saunders. I am a student at Murray State College in Oklahoma. I am writing a report about how Natural Disasters effect our economy. I have found your sight to be very useful in gathering my information. I hope you and your family have somewhat been able to get your lives back together. I can somewhat understand the pain. We have dealt with several tornadoes raging through our town in the last few years. It can be very devastating. Thanks for your help. Kellie

We moved from Plantation shortly before Andrew and, while we miss South Florida, were grateful not to be there during and after Andrew.

We like your idea of contractors working together during a crises. Another hurricane will hit South Florida and now is when you need to be prepared.

Possibly the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (nari.org) can be of assistance to you. We are active in our local chapter (NARI of Greater Charlotte) and will be glad to coordinate and assist in screening possible contractors in the future.

My husband, Carl, is The Home Doctor, Inc., and a NARI Certified Remodeler. As 2nd VP of our Chapter and manager of his business, I am aware of what's needed to help.

Our Chapter has formed a solid relatinship with Building Standards and even have members to assist and guide them on changes and clarifications of code. Now is the time you and your fellow electricians should band together to work with your Standards people.

However, I do not currently have a FFL, and do not foresee having one in the near future. The gun dealers in the area want 10% to order one. Do you know of a better way of obtaining one??.. I knew ohms law stuff had to be on the web somewhere.. everything else is! Glad you had the wheel. A good addition would be a "real time" ohms law calculator, where you could log onm enter in the values you know, and submit it, then it could do the calculations for you. I use a currency exchange thingy on the web like this.. works great.

Bye, Brian

Looking for something on the internet I came across your web site and being an electric motor technician I read your short explanation of three phase motors and in my opinion the person who wrote this does not know very much about electric motors. The first rule is never say never when making a statement about motors. True there are mathematical constants that apply but there are exceptions to some of these rules. Your statement about a wye connected motor having 9 leads and a delta connected having 12 leads is simply not true.I have seen 12 lead star designed motors and I have seen 9 lead delta connected motors. I have also seen 12 lead single voltage motors that the only way to determine if it is wye or delta would be to take the motor apart and lift the connection. I have seen and rewound motors with 24 leads. The reason is current carrying capacity and pure physical size. Like the manufacturer I try to parallel leads so they can be handled and stuffed in the J box. You say you can hook up a 12 lead motor with the name plate missing. I have worked with many electricians and technicians in the past and the bulk of them were very bright. They are respectful of motors and electricity. A good electrician will gather all the information he or she can before attempting to reconnect a $500+ motor without blowing it up the first try. I think I can say most electricians don't have a phase to phase surge tester for nondistructive testing of malfunctioning motors so they call their local motor shop for some specialized information or help. It's the electrician who knows a little and shoots from the hip that causes the most damage when they reconnect it and throw it on line to test their work. In this day and age for an electrician to have a working understanding of electricity he or she must be exposed to the various avenues that electricity takes and electric motors are just a fraction of that. I don't assume to know how to wire an office with low voltage control so I don't believe you can assume most electricians possess a working knowledge of the external or internal options of the leads on an electric motor. thanks for letting me comment a-b-g@worldnet.att.net

I see that your company is from Florida. I lived and worked down in jacksonville FLA for a year. I am from Connecticut. There are o as in no workman ship down there. Its called slap it in get it done. Connecticut has some of the best training programs , and one of the most strick apprentiship programs compared to Florida Or the country for that matter. I found the licensing process a joke. They would not see my CT journeymans license. They wanted way to much info. More than the IRS even needs. Seeing what a joke it was to work down there I decided to come back north. Workman ship and pride still mean something here. I also teach my values and trade to future electricians.

I took an electronics course from H.C. lewis in Okla City in 1968. I was looking for my electronics book where i kept my ohms law wheel and could not find it. decided to look on the net. Low & behold i found you site with the wheel and it was also from a Lewis. I just wondered if there was any connection. They prepared me for a great caree in electronics. I would up a manager with SWBT tele co. Has been a very good caree. If any relations I like to say THANKS!

I enjoyed the story on Andrew. My family have been natives of the Homestead/ FL. City area for decades. I was 9 months pregnant at the time of the Hurricane and stayed in lovely Homestead Hospital for fear of going into labor from the pressure. It was nice to know that someone agrees with me about wanting the 'old' Homestead back. The new resteraunts and stores are a nice convienence, but it was more like home before. I am not living there anymore, but I am back to visit a couple of times a year to see relatives and friends. Thanks again!

I think your website is very good in telling people how you felt while in a particular situation. I thought maybe a few facts would have been good to give us a actual look at data and more pictures would have been better to show us the damage which was done. I don't think your website would be good for someone doing a project.

Hi, My name is Max. I lived in Homestead most of my life, in fact my parents still live in Leisure City. For the past six years I've been living in North Carolina where I own a Restaurant. About 3 years ago a friend of mine whom is a licensed electrician asked me to help him a little, and the rest is history. I like doing electrical work and I wanted to get my License, but in Florida, it gets too cold up here. I was wondering if you could let me know what are the requirements to take the exam. Up here in NC there basically 3 types of licenses; 1) unlimited *which means you can perform any electrical job. Needs 7 years experience for license 2) intermediate * up to $75,000.00 800v 6 years exp. 3) limited * up to $25,000.00 600 volts 4 years exp. I've been to a few web sites looking for info, like the professional Board of Regulations, Electrical and all I found was the applications and fees but no info about whats required. I know this might not be what your web site is about, but I just took an interest since I saw you were from Homestead.

Please answer me back at Max2000@skybest.com

Thanks,

Max

P.S. You web site is very handy and cool!
